First IDEM Convention: Dalle password all'identità digitale federata

The first IDEM Convention “Dalle password all'identità digitale federate” (i.e. “From passwords to federate digital identity”) will take place in Rome on 30 and 31 March 2009, at the Faculty of  Philosophy congress hall of University of Roma Tre.

The National Federation of Authentication and Authorization infrastructures

IDEM The convention will offer the opportunity to launch the first Italian federation of Authentication and Authorization Infrastructures. Coordinated by GARR and dedicated to the Italian community of University and Research, the Federation builds upon the success of the IDEM pilot project, ended in 2008.
Targeting final users, service and content providers, representatives of connected organizations and technicians, the convention aims at introducing the Federation, its objectives and features; success stories will showcase the benefits of becoming a member of the Federation.
The programme also includes thorough technical presentations of the technology exploited by the Federation (Shibboleth etc).

IDEM, the Authentication and Authorization Infrastructure of the GARR Network

IDEMIdem is the first Italian Federation of Authentication and Authorization infrastructures, whose main aim is to make simple the user recognition and authorization processes.
Thanks to the federate approach, IDEM, the new Federation of GARR community offers, the following benefits:

    to end users:
  • less passwords to remember;
  • an easy access to online resources, regardless the user location;
    to member organizations:
  • reduction of costs connected to the creation and management of user profiles and to the implementation of new services;
  • Increase of the user satisfaction;
    for online service providers:
  • reduction of the administrative overhead to manage identities and credentials;
  • the possibility to widen their user community.
