WS6 GARR "DALLA RETE ALL'UTENTE:
QUANDO L'UTENTE DIVENTA NODO ATTIVO DELLA RETE"

The sixth GARR Workshop (WS6) will focus on the supply of end-to-end services.

The applications of highest performances in use in the academic and research community both on a national and international level as well as the more diffused applications of videoconferencing, e-learning, teleworking, demand the guarantee of "end-to-end" service quality. This is possible only through an infrastructure of flexible transport, versatile and of suitable capacity and a local net infrastructure in the position of extending these characteristics until the final user.

The main topics of this workshop will be the access technologies and the capacity of local net in supporting the most advanced net services and guaranteeing the quality of applications.

During the workshop the state of GARR network and the interconnection with the other research networks on a European and Worldwide level will be introduced. Moreover the evolution of the net will be described, foreseeing a “hybrid” architecture, which combines circuit and package switching, permitting the configuration of virtual private networks (VPN) and dedicated routes (also on lambda) facilitating the distribution of end-to-end services.
