Pubblicato il 11 July 2018

GARR awarded 10 "Orio Carlini" Scholarships for young talents who have presented a research project on the application of innovative technologies for the development of digital infrastructures and their services in multidisciplinary contexts.

The variety of topics of the selected projects represents, in a smaller scale, the complexity of GARR user community. It ranges from engineering and physics with the development of leaky wave antennas for terahertz communications, to data mining tools in the medical and high energy fields, from a cloud monitoring system for cardiac screening in sports, to SDN and IPv6 and to microservices platforms for network security, from machine learning applied to an intrusion detection system, to neural networks applied to quality control in the agro-food sector and even to the portability on GARR Cloud of a Galaxy on-demand service. In the humanities field, there is a project for a Digital Scholarly Semantic Publisher (DSSP) platform, for the transformation of digital scholarly publications into RDF knowledge graphs and in the artistic field there is a study of tools to enhance distance music learning.

The selected scholarship holders will carry out the research activities in scientific, cultural and academic organisations interconnected with GARR network, and specifically: the University of Rome, La Sapienza, the University of Florence, the Polytechnic University of Marche, the Conservatory of Music "Giuseppe Verdi" of Milan, the University of Rome Tor Vergata, the University of Sannio, the University of Bologna, the University of Naples "Federico II", the Bruno Kessler Foundation of Trento and the University of Milan.

This edition received many applications, a sign of the renewed interest in this research opportunity.
