Pubblicato il 12 April 2019

The 2019 edition of GARR Conference is fast approaching: from 4 to 6 June at the Politecnico di Torino, the main networking experts will gather to present success stories of innovation and topics for discussion for the world of academia, research, education, health and humanities.

Registrations are open for "Connecting the future", the 2019 edition of the annual GARR Conference, which will be an opportunity to explore the technological opportunities and challenges in multidisciplinary research.

We remind you that there is still time until April 15 to actively contribute to the event by submitting a proposal via the call for papers.

The programme

During the conference we will focus on the key developments that are affecting the very way research is performed. This is the case of Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity, but also ICT sustainability, digital schools and the sensitive issue of digital data preservation.

The conference sessions will be opened by internationally renowned keynote speakers, starting with Alberto Sangiovanni Vincentelli, professor in the Department of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Berkeley who will open the conference with a speech on the "Future of the Future".
On the subject of Big Data and AI, experts such as Barbara Caputo, Politecnico di Torino, Andrea Cavalli, IIT, Vincenzo Lombardo, University of Turin and Donato Malerba of the University of Bari will discuss in a round table.
Among the most awaited guests of the panel on cybersecurity there will be Raoul Chiesa, one of the first and most famous Italian ethical hackers, who will guide us to discover the common thread that links worlds, ecosystems and different actors passing from hacking to cyber warfare.
We will discuss about the legal aspects related to research data and the risks and opportunities introduced by technologies such as AI, blockchain or the IoT with the lawyer Fulvio Sarzana, an expert in information law, and with Antonella Mulé of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, which deals with data management in the archives, and other protagonists of the biomedical research sector.

The theme of sustainable design of technological infrastructures and their impact on our society will be introduced by architect Matteo Robiglio, professor of the Politecnico di Torino, while the session dedicated to Open Science and research data management will have a particular reference to the indications coming from the European Open Science Cloud program (EOSC). The program will be introduced by Paolo Budroni (University of Vienna), Paola Galimberti (University of Milan), and Renéé van Kessel (DANS). Following this topic, we will talk about digital schools.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, University and Research, Mr. Salvatore Giuliano will provide an analysis of the state of the Italian school regarding the use of digital technologies in teaching.
A look at the national scene will also be offered by prof. Roberto Maragliano, one of the leading scholars in Italy on this subject. The most significant experiences presented by some Italian schools will complete the session.

On the final day, we will discuss about Open Data and the digital data preservation and reuse. The round table will host experts from different disciplines: Walter Ricciardi, professor at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Massimo Cocco, INGV researcher and coordinator of the EPOS research infrastructure, Elena Borgi, head of the library and of the historical archive of the Academy of Sciences of Turin.
