Pubblicato il 31 March 2020

Claudio Allocchio, GARR Senior Techincal Officer, and one of the founders of the Italian Research and Education Network was elected Chair of the GÉANT Community Committee (GCC), the organ that facilitates the dialogue between network users and NRENs.

Allocchio takes over the GCC Chair role from Valter Nordh, from the Swedish SUNET and will serve in this position for the next 4 years.

“I am truly honoured for this nomination”, commented Allocchio, “I believe that the GCC Chair is one of the most important roles in our community which I am committed to serve with dedication, time and passion. In fact, serving the community is indeed at the core of all our actions, projects and discussions.
What I am going to do as Chairman will be to help the research community navigate a world where the boundaries are increasingly blurred between what we call the education and research community and the rest of the world, a world where users are increasingly unaware of the difference between what is provided to them by the research networks and what is provided by commercial operators. I am of the opinion that it is only through a collaborative and supportive spirit between NRENs and a synergistic approach with commercial operators that we will be able to continue to bring true innovation and real solutions for users".
Christian Grimm, Chair of the GÉANT Board of Directors said: “I would like to congratulate the new GCC Chair and thank the candidates for offering their nominations. The GCC Chair role thrives on the collaboration between experienced and dedicated community members and I look forward to seeing how the GCC will develop in the future.”
