GARR is seeking a recent graduate with a passion for networking and optical communication technologies to join our team as an Optical Network Engineer at our Rome headquarters.

The selected candidate will work within the Optical Network group, a team dedicated to the design, technological evolution, and testing of the GARR backbone optical network infrastructure.

Main responsibilities include:

• Designing network infrastructure and defining access architecture
• Implementing and modifying physical or transmission infrastructures (including metropolitan networks)
• Analysing and testing new technologies and optical equipment
• Conducting tests and technical validation of fibre optic infrastructure
• Managing and updating the GARR information system
• Supporting delivery and migration activities
• Studying and implementing technological solutions and automation tools
• Developing DevOps solutions and exploring emerging technologies such as QKD and fibre sensing

Who can apply
We welcome applications from individuals who possess:

• A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Physics, Computer Science, Automation Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical, Electronic or Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Mathematical Modelling for Engineering, or Data Science
• Proficiency in Italian (C1 level)
• Good knowledge of English (B2 level)
