Starting today, the new eduVPN service is officially available for students, teachers, and researchers, allowing them to browse securely wherever they are.

Designed for those who study, teach, or work in academia or research, eduVPN enables safe browsing even outside universities or research institutions, protecting data from potential risks, especially on public networks.

What is eduVPN and how does it work?

eduVPN is a virtual private network (VPN) that creates an encrypted tunnel between the user’s device and a remote server. Particularly useful on unsecured Wi-Fi networks (such as those in airports, hotels, or public places), this service prevents data from being intercepted by third parties.

With eduVPN, users can connect not only to the GARR network but also to other international research networks (including, for example, those in France, Germany, or the Netherlands). About twenty research networks around the world already subscribe to the service.

Among its main advantages is unrestricted access to international resources, such as research tools and educational content, which are sometimes only accessible from certain geographic locations. With eduVPN, researchers and students can access the same resources even while traveling or on Erasmus, enabling them to continue working seamlessly outside of campus during periods of international mobility.

In this way, it is possible to improve the effectiveness and quality of research and foster international collaborations thanks also to secure data transfer.

eduVPN is coordinated at the European level by GÉANT, the European research network, which supports and promotes the service to ensure high standards of security and privacy for the entire European academic community.

To start using eduVPN, simply download the dedicated application from www.eduvpn.it and configure it using your institutional credentials as described in the service documentation. It’s a simple process that allows users to connect with just a few clicks, wherever they are.
