Registrations are now open for the upcoming international webinar on cybersecurity awareness, organised by the GÉANT community for the research and education sector.

The event will take place on Thursday 22 May 2025 at 15:00 CEST, and will feature renowned cybersecurity expert Brian Honan, who will deliver a talk titled Beyond Fear – Rethinking Cybersecurity Awareness.

In this session, Brian Honan will challenge traditional fear-based approaches to cybersecurity awareness and offer a new perspective focused on empowering individuals. His thought-provoking presentation will explore how encouraging responsibility and understanding among users can lead to more effective and sustainable cybersecurity behaviour.

Brian Honan is a globally recognised authority on cybersecurity and data protection. He is the founder and CEO of BH Consulting, an independent cybersecurity and data protection consultancy. Brian has played a key role in shaping national and international cybersecurity strategies and has served as a special advisor to Europol’s Cybercrime Centre (EC3). He is also a member of the Advisory Group of the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA), and a frequent keynote speaker, author and media contributor on digital security topics.

The webinar is part of the Beyond Fear initiative, which aims to transform how cybersecurity awareness is addressed in the research and education sector—shifting from fear-based messaging to approaches that emphasise understanding, responsibility, and user empowerment.
