GARR at TNC25: the international conference of the research and education network

Pubblicato il 06 June 2025

From 10 to 12 June 2025, TNC25 will take place in Brighton, United Kingdom. It is the leading international conference dedicated to research and education networking, organised by GÉANT in collaboration with JISC, the UK’s national research and education network.

With over 800 participants from more than 70 countries, TNC is a key reference point for professionals in the field of knowledge networks, bringing together experts in cybersecurity, digital identity, data management, infrastructure, and innovation.

This year’s theme, “Brighter Together”, celebrates the spirit of collaboration within the community, the breaking down of barriers, and the sharing of skills across increasingly cross-disciplinary fields. In a city like Brighton, known for its commitment to diversity, TNC25 aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and build a more inclusive future for education and research. Key topics include cybersecurity, international partnerships, network resilience, and sustainable solutions to current and future challenges.

Once again, GARR and the Italian research and education community will be actively involved, contributing internationally relevant expertise, experience, and projects.

Among this year’s speakers from the Italian community is Giuseppe Aceto, Associate Professor at the University of Naples Federico II, who will present the experience of his university in areas related to security and infrastructure, with a focus on the MANANA (Mobile App Network trAffic Nutrition fActs) project, which monitors mobile app network activity.

In addition to the main sessions, GARR will also take part in several side meetings:

  • On 9 June, Matteo Colantonio and Filippo Landini will speak in the morning at the GNA-G Network Automation Working Group meeting, focused on the evolution of NREN networks through automation and orchestration. In the afternoon, they will participate in the Workflow Orchestrator User Group Meeting, organised by SURF, ESnet, GÉANT and HEAnet, where the discussion will focus on developments in the WFO platform, use cases, and new features.
  • On 13 June, during the 50th REFEDS Meeting, Mario Di Lorenzo will present updates from the IDEM GARR AAI Federation as part of the session dedicated to federation activity updates.
  • On the same day, during the eduGAIN Town Hall, Davide Vaghetti (eduGAIN Service Owner) will take part in several sessions, including a talk on the Security Contact, the presentation of the eduGAIN OpenID Federation Pilot, and the eduGAIN strategy presentation alongside Pål Axelsson (SUNET) and Casper Dreef (GÉANT).

The Italian participation in TNC25 once again highlights the significant contribution of our community to the development of global digital infrastructure and the sharing of knowledge to address future challenges together. It is through this international collaboration that we shape a more inclusive future for research and education.
