Job opportunity: we are recruiting 4 network specialists for the GARR NOC in Rome

GARR is looking for four graduates (Bachelor’s degree) with a passion for networking and communication technologies to join the team as NOC Specialists at our Rome office.

The successful candidates will join the Network Operations Centre (NOC), the group responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the national GARR network infrastructure — from the backbone to end users — across all layers: physical (fibre and circuits), optical transmission and packet networks.

Main responsibilities include:

  • proactive monitoring of the infrastructure (backbone, PoPs, user access) and handling alarms through network management platforms
  • incident management: opening trouble tickets, performing initial diagnostics, fault isolation, and service restoration; escalation to specialist teams and suppliers when required
  • operational management: implementing configuration changes, software/firmware releases, and corrective or upgrade activities on network devices and services
  • first-level support for GARR network users, working closely with Access Port Managers (APMs) and local technical contacts
  • coordination with telecom providers and equipment vendors in the event of faults affecting fibres/circuits, optical platforms, and routers/switches
  • security-related actions in coordination with the CERT (e.g. applying filters, L2/L3 mitigation measures) in response to threats such as phishing, copyright violations, anomalous traffic, or amplification from unmanaged hosts
  • provisioning connectivity services for new sites/users and activating backbone links in compliance with technical specifications and configuration templates defined by the design teams
  • operational documentation: updating procedures, configuration records, knowledge bases, and operational reports

Applications are welcome from candidates with:

  • a Bachelor’s degree in Information Engineering, Computer Science and Technologies, Physical Sciences and Technologies, or an equivalent qualification
