Browsing data

The IT systems and software applications used to operate this website collect, during their normal operation, certain data (the transmission of which is inherent in the use of Internet communication protocols) that are not associated with directly identifiable users.

By their nature, this information could allow users to be identified through processing and association with data held by third parties. However, it is not collected in order to be associated with identified data subjects. These data are used solely to obtain anonymous statistical information on the use of the site and to check that it is functioning correctly. The data may be used to establish liability in the event of cybercrime or damage to the site; apart from this eventuality, web contact data are currently not retained for longer than is necessary to carry out the checks required to ensure the ongoing security of the system.

Data voluntarily provided by the user upon registration

The data provided by the user upon registration (first name, last name, username, password, email address, institution/organisation of affiliation) are retained until the user relationship ends. Consortium GARR does not carry out any profiling of users.

Purposes of processing

Consortium GARR processes personal data only to the extent strictly necessary to carry out its institutional functions, and avoids processing where the purposes pursued can be achieved using anonymous data or by means that allow the data subject/user to be identified only when necessary.

Retention period

The data will be processed for as long as necessary to carry out the relationship in place, and in any case for the period required by the applicable Italian legislation.

Except as specified for browsing data, users are free to provide the personal data requested in the request forms in order to receive information material or other communications. Failure to provide such data may make it impossible to obtain what has been requested.

Methods of processing

Personal data will be processed in paper, computerised and electronic form and entered into the relevant databases. These may be accessed, and the data thus become known, by personnel expressly authorised by the Data Controller to process personal data, who are bound by an explicit duty of confidentiality. Such personnel may carry out processing operations in compliance with the provisions of the law, ensuring not only confidentiality but also the integrity, security, accuracy and relevance of the data, in line with the stated purposes.

The data collected essentially consist of:
Identification data: IP address and, where provided, first name, last name and email address of natural persons. Data provided by the data subject may be collected from any joint controllers and/or Data Processors acting on behalf of Consortium GARR.

Scope of disclosure and dissemination of data

Users' personal data are used solely to provide the service or perform the task requested and are disclosed to third parties only where:

• this is necessary to provide the services requested by the user and to fulfil the data subject's requests;
• disclosure is required by legal or regulatory obligations or serves a significant public interest.
