On April 9th, GARR Scholars' Day 2024 will take place in Rome, an event dedicated to the winners of the eleventh edition of the Orio Carlini scholarships and their research projects.
The acquisition of optical spectrum in the BlueMed submarine cable marks the first step towards the complete integration of Sardinia's university and research network into the national backbone of GARR.

With the installation of the first optical equipment, the NRRP-funded projects TeRABIT and ICSC officially enter the implementation phase for the network component.Given the tight deadlines and administrative tasks required by the NRRP, this is an important initial achievement.

The upgrade of the link between the GARR network and the European research network GÉANT has been successfully completed. The entire Italian scientific and academic community can now rely on an international connection of 600 Gbps in total, thanks to the double link with a single capacity of 300 Gbps.

The new edition of GARR NEWS is now online. The main theme of this issue is participation, one of the characteristics that strongly define the research and education community. Through the active engagement of all community members, researchers and students can create new opportunities, overcome obstacles, and, why not, breake away from traditional patterns to drive innovation.
After the successful experimentation with DCI solutions in recent months, the connection, operating at a capacity of 1.6 Tbps, between CERN in Geneva and the CNAF of INFN in Bologna is now fully operational on the national GARR network.

About cloud technology, many institutions are currently debating whether to rely entirely on public cloud services (managed by the major international market players) or to build and maintain their ownh cloud infrastructures, maybe considering the federation of resources as with the GARR Cloud.

The Horizon 2020 project NEANIAS, which began at the end of 2019 with the goal of developing prototypes of innovative services in the EOSC context, particularly for the submarine, atmospheric, and space research sectors, has been completed. The project's Italian scientific partners are GARR, INAF, and UNIMIB, while ALTEC (an ASI subsidiary) and MEEO participated as SMEs (small and medium-sized companies).

On 14 March 2023 a new project was launched in Italy: TeRABIT. Supported by the EU funds of Italy's recovery and resilience plan, the project aims to build by 2025 a next-generation integrated computing and network infrastructure to improve collaboration and information exchange among Italian scientific communities.
Two vacancies are now open as Junior Network Engineer for GARR Rome office. Applications must be submitted by by filling in the form by 12.00 on 23 March 2023.
The installation and configuration of the new computing and storage resources were completed successfully.
