GARR, OGS and the University of Trieste have joined SUBMERSE (SUBMarine cablEs for ReSearch and Exploration), an innovative project funded by the European Union that aims to use existing submarine cables—already deployed by the research and education community—as geographically distributed sensors to monitor the Earth and its systems.
Registration is now open for the GARR Conference 2026, the annual event of the research and education community where experiences, projects and visions on the use of digital infrastructures and services are shared. It is an opportunity for discussion between those who use the GARR network and those who actively contribute to its development and improvement every day.

Internet Society Italia, the italian national chapter of the Internet Society celebrates its 25th anniversary this year and is marking the occasion with a special event. On 2 December, the Final event of the TeRABIT project will take place at the Conference Centre of the CNR Research Area in Bologna, entitled “TeRABIT: the evolution of infrastructures for cutting-edge research.”

At the Global Gateway Forum held in Brussels on 10 October, the European Commission and key partners from Africa, India and the Mediterranean region discussed the EU–Africa–India Digital Corridor initiative, which aims to establish a reliable, secure and high-capacity data connection between the continents.

The GARR Security Days 2025 took place in Rome on 6–7 October, offering the research and academic community a concrete opportunity to engage in discussion on some of the most pressing issues in cybersecurity and digital identity management.

The selected candidate will support activities related to recruitment and selection, onboarding, personnel organisation and administration, contributing to the management of HR processes and to the enhancement of people within the organisation.

The call for the GÉANT Innovation Programme 2025 is now open – a funding opportunity for innovative projects within the research and education community. In previous editions, the initiative has already supported more than 30 projects across Europe, including several from Italian institutions.

On October 1st, Stefano Trumpy passed away. He was an engineer and researcher who played a decisive role in the birth of the Internet in Italy and in the development of the national research network.
The European project that revolutionised the GÉANT network, GN4-3N, has been nominated for the prestigious European Digital Connectivity Awards 2025, an initiative promoted by the European Commission to reward projects contributing to Europe’s connectivity goals. On Tuesday 30 September, at the Bari Chamber of Commerce, a day entirely dedicated to the MEET project (Monitoring Earth’s Evolution and Tectonics) took place.
