New GÉANT Innovation Programme call to fund original ideas

14 October 2025

The call for the GÉANT Innovation Programme 2025 is now open – a funding opportunity for innovative projects within the research and education community. In previous editions, the initiative has already supported more than 30 projects across Europe, including several from Italian institutions.

Any organisation connected to the GARR network can submit research projects requesting up to €50,000 in funding, with a maximum duration of six months. Projects may address any topic of interest to the research networking community, including networks, advanced services, trust & identity, security, digital health, multimedia, and privacy. Selection criteria include the quality of the idea, its level of innovation, and potential impact.

The deadline for submitting project proposals is Friday, 14 November 2025, at 12:00 (CET).

The programme has a total budget of €300,000 to support innovative projects proposed by universities, research bodies, and other educational and scientific institutions that are part of the GÉANT community through the national research and education networks, such as GARR in Italy. Joint proposals are also eligible, provided that the lead organisation is part of the community of institutions connected to the GARR network.

The GÉANT Innovation Programme offers a unique opportunity to test and develop ideas quickly, thanks to a streamlined and efficient selection process. Some of the community’s most essential services, such as eduroam, eduVPN, and eduMEET, originated from this programme.
