On November 27, the renown physicist Stavros Katsanevas passed away. He had been director since 2018 of the GARR-connected European Gravitational Observatory (EGO), whose headquarters are based in Cascina, near Pisa.

The new statute of the GARR Consortium was signed during an extraordinary General Assembly. The document was signed by GARR president Maurizio Tira and the representatives of the member institutions: Sarah Chen (CNR), Roberto Iaschi (ENEA), Giorgio Mosconi (CRUI), Antonio Zoccoli (INFN), Giovanni Scarpato (INGV).

GARR, in collaboration with CNR, launches a new weekly online appointment which, from November to January, explores the issues related to the protection of personal data and the GDPR.

The TNC23 Call for Proposals for Single Presentations, Demonstrations and Workshops is now open. (Please note the call for Lightning Talks and smaller side meetings will open in February 2023.). TNC23 will be hosted by RASH, the Albanian Research and Education Network, and will take place in Tirana from 5-9 June 2023.

Quoting the title of the TNC2022 conference GARR hosted last June in Trieste, this issue focusses on navigating the unexplored. This is just what so many Italian scientists who left their mark in the history of science have been doing.
The European project Skills4EOSC (Skills for the European Open Science commons: creating a training ecosystem for Open and FAIR science), for the creation of a pan-European network of competence centres to disseminate a real culture of open science, through the development of methodologies, activities and training resources to accelerate the updating of European researchers and professionals in the management of scientific data, has started.

For the first time, the Italian research and education network GARR and the pan-European network GÉANT have successfully connected two data centres over 1000 km apart: the national computing centre CNAF of the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN) in Bologna, and CERN in Geneva, with a capacity of 1.6 Tbps and a latency of just 9.5 milliseconds , thanks to multi-domain shared spectrum .

After an intense week of networking, training and sharing, the 2022 edition of TNC has come to an end. The international conference of research networks, the the first #Face2FaceTNC in three years, was hosted in the wonderful setting of Trieste, 15 years after the last Italian edition.

The second edition of "S-légami! Open Access - User's Guide for Researchers", a user's guide for researchers, has been published online. The TV channels of the Sicilian volcanoes, developed by the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), transmit video images from the surveillance cameras installed on Etna and the Aeolian Islands with the aim of offering the “vision” of Sicilian volcanoes constantly monitored by the Etneo Observatory (INGV-OE).
