On October 1st, Stefano Trumpy passed away. He was an engineer and researcher who played a decisive role in the birth of the Internet in Italy and in the development of the national research network.

The European project that revolutionised the GÉANT network, GN4-3N, has been nominated for the prestigious European Digital Connectivity Awards 2025, an initiative promoted by the European Commission to reward projects contributing to Europe’s connectivity goals. At GARR, we are pleased to share this nomination, which recognises the innovative capacity of the national research and education networking community.

On Tuesday 30 September, at the Bari Chamber of Commerce, a day entirely dedicated to the MEET project (Monitoring Earth’s Evolution and Tectonics) took place. The project is coordinated by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) and funded under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP).

From 17 to 19 October 2025, GARR research network will be present at Maker Faire Rome with an exhibition stand in Area A of the Gazometro Ostiense.

 The EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) and GÉANT have signed a contract worth up to €60 million to build a secure, ultra-high-capacity hyperconnectivity infrastructure that will link EuroHPC supercomputers and leading research centres across Europe.

The GÉANT Compendium 2024 is online – the leading report collecting data and analysis on National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) in Europe.
For over twenty years, the Compendium has been a key reference point for universities, research institutions, and policy makers.

A new event for the GARR community kicks off in Rome from 6 to 7 October, dedicated to those working in cybersecurity and digital identity within the world of universities and research.

The GARR Annual Report 2024 is now available online. The document outlines the key infrastructural, technological and organisational developments carried out by GARR throughout the year to support the education, research and cultural community.
