INFN, the Italian National Institute of Nuclear Physics, just turned70 years old and opened the celebrations for this milestone with an event at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, in the presence of the Minister of University and Research, Maria Cristina Messa.
For GARR and its community, 2020 was a decisive year, marked by many changes due to the technological evolution for the new generation and new services and by the pandemic situation.
The new edition of the annual GARR workshop will take place from 8 to 12 November 2021. For the second year, in consideration of the evolution of the Covid-19 situation, the event will be held online.

Massimo Carboni, coordinator of the GARR Infrastructure Department, received the "Campione" award for technology, for the initiative to make GARR videoconferencing systems available to all citizens starting from March 2020, in the midst of the Covid-19 emergency.
On 1 June 2021, on the occasion of the "Leading the Digital Decade" event in Porto, the EllaLink transatlantic fibre optic cable was officially inaugurated, the first to directly connect Europe (the GÉANT network) and Latin America (the RedClara network).
Registrations are open for the GARR Conference “Sostenibile/Digitale - Data and technologies for the future”, which will take place online from 10.00 to 12.30 between 7 and 16 June.
The recording of the Network Performing Arts Production Workshop (NPAPW) 2021 is now online. The international event dedicated to innovative technologies in the performing arts using advanced networks such as Internet2, GÉANT and other international partners was held on April 27-28.
A new service is available for GARR user community: AudioConf, a solution for setting up conference calls and invite others to join by simply dialing a telephone number.
www.horizon-europe.it is online: the Italian website dedicated to the new framework program of the European Union for research and innovation 2021 - 2027.
In this particular year, RACI (RIPE Academic Cooperation Initiative), which supports the academic world and funds important events such as the RIPE Meeting and the RIPE NCC regional meetings, has decided to allocate the funds available in 2021 to support research projects relevant to the work carried out within the RIPE NCC (network coordination centre).
Claudio Allocchio, GARR Senior Technical Officer, received the e-Culture Award, in recognition for collaborative and co-creative work on advanced networks in the cultural field (art, science, technology and society).
